Abstract

This paper will examine a spatial poverty map of three sub-districts (Upazilas), Chilmary, Kurigram Sadar and Ulipur of Kurigram district in Bangladesh using multidimensional poverty management approach. The core purpose of the study was to have an MPI poverty picture of those demographic locations, and to support policymakers in developing diversified anti-poverty programs for the poverty pockets. I used Alkire-Foster (AF) method to develop the MPIs. The result of the study shows a comparative picture of povertyhas been used incidence, intensity, and severity of those locations. In addition, it indicated the magnitudes of deprivations of MPI poor households in basic poverty indicators. Furthermore, this paper reported some core advantages of using MPI approach to analyze poverty over available approaches, such as dashboard approach and others. Moreover, I documented a comparison between two major approaches namely money-metric measurement and multidimensional poverty indices as poverty reduction policy tools. Furthermore, I showed some areas of concern in poverty reduction in the northern Bangladesh based on the analysis and offered recommendations to have a significant progress by 2030.
